23 stycznia, 2019A few days ago I had the pleasure to participate in the „Crisis and Media” training for the Spokespersons of the District Boards of the Polish Hunting Association from all over the country. Why do I consider this training a great step towards effective communication? You will find the answers below! Scroll down to the next part
Who is the spokesperson? If we cite the definition from Wikipedia, we will learn that the spokesman is the person responsible for contacts of a given institution or organization with the media and for all information about the company or office that gets into the media. The spokesperson must be communicative and use a language that the general public understands. The spokesperson must respond quickly, answer questions, speak confidently, do not be surprised and be prepared for every question. All you have to do is turn on any news to observe the statements of various spokespersons who, despite being prepared, received a question that was difficult to answer. Media like most those difficult questions. It is best if the interlocutor is hard-pressed and does not know how to get out of the situation. Then, from the perspective of the viewer, we have good material, because there is something better than a spokesperson who does not know how to get out of a given situation. Therefore, the spokesperson should have control over how the conversation is conducted. It’s very easy to fall into difficult and complicated questions. It sometimes happens that some answers can not be given for some reason, and it should be prepared for such situations as well. Of course, they should always take care of the appropriate level of discussion and high personal culture. I was lucky to have appeared at the „Crisis and Media” training where we faced the camera, press releases, and even set up a crisis staff whose task was to effectively exit the simulated crisis situation. I must admit that our specialists stood up to the task and very well prepared to work with hunters, and in simulated conversations, they tried to introduce us to more than one face by inserting more than one journalistic frog among our statements. Our statements were meticulously analyzed and commented on by experts. Attention was paid to both – their positive and negative aspects. All this to be best prepare for what can happen to us during the actual statements in front of the cameras. As you can see, over the past few weeks, topics related to hunting evoke a lot of emotions and in a few wrong words we can destroy a lot. Therefore, it is so important that each District Board should have a spokesperson prepared who, if necessary, will be able to speak on behalf of the Polish Hunting Association even on the most difficult issues. As we know, wild boars and ASF are just the tip of the iceberg. Fortunately, this topic has enabled us to appear in the media and often also education, which is so lacking. This training is very important because thanks to such initiatives all districts are on the same level. Speaking with one voice is especially important when negative hunting slogans are heard from almost every direction. Not only speakers should speak with one voice, but all hunters. In my opinion, most of the critics appear because of the lack of understanding what hunting is and what role the hunter plays in the environment. Therefore, our voice should be a voice promoting hunting, hunting ethics our tradition and many years of culture. Happy Hunting!
