Hey hunter, are you a photographer?

Do you know how to make a good picture?
Do you know how to make it interesting and professional?
Do you know how to use manual settings in your camera?
Do you know basics of photography, composition and rule of thirds?

Ok, you don’t have to be a professional photographer to take a picture, however are you sure that you will be able to make good and proper picture of hunted game?

Yes, I understand, everyone is proud of his/her hunts. We enjoy every hunted boar or deer. Game are often so long awaited, that the emotions connected with the hunt are so strong, that we pull out the camera and take a photo on the spur of the moment.
I also understand, that you might want to have your trophy on pictures. It’s ok, as long as it is in your private photo collections.

If you had an idea to share trophies picture over the Internet, you should prepare yourself for a Spanish Inquisition.  Believe me, it won’t be taken from Monty’s Python series.
Comments like “Murderer”, “I wish you the same” or similar will be only the tip of the iceberg.

Even on closed hunter’s groups you may find many peoples who will be against hunter’s, and your picture can be reshare by them, and rebound on you sooner than you expect.

From time to time, this type of photography appears in the network, and many people’s pounding the table calling us  “bastards!”.

Ok, so what kind of pictures can we take, to share it over the internet?

My answer is: the one, on which you cannot see hunted game, or blood.

Here are some examples:

You can share photo of your hunter’s hat with a spruce brunch (in Poland, we call it “Złom”). It can be your selfie, or just a hat in your hand. Złom can puzzle a non-hunting person, and then you can describe what you do, and love.

A picture of husk with a description „I had a successful hunt” isn’t so drastic like picture of roe with shooted neck. It may show that you hunt something, but it still an unfinished story.

Weapon next to the tree, picture of high seat with description “Today It was my lucky one”, or “beauttifull morning”, or “I am staying here for the night”. Game feeding, hunting with your friends, some hunting traditions, hunting dogs, or everything else what is not so controversial are photos that you should publish.

You can always include a story of what you hunt. There is no blood in the story, thanks to that, the message is more delicate for non-hunters.

I am more than sure, that we can show the better side of hunting. You can take a look on my Instagram – I am not sharing any pictures of hunted game.
Many of my friends changed their mind about hunting after they talk with me, or watch some of my photos. They found, that hunting is something completely different than they previously thought. They started to perceive hunting as it really is.

So, if you are a hunter, show how our hunting world looks like.  Show our traditions, practices, our culture, beliefs or superstitions. Show, that we are truly taking care of the nature.

By the way, have you ever seen a butcher who puts the picture of a freshly killed pig on social media? Why we hunters should do that, since we have many years of beautiful tradition, and the shot is only a few percent of our hunting adventure?
